Hijack

Idris Elba tries to take control of the situation and hijacking hijinks ensue.

- Yes, I've finally seen both The Marvels and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, but have left myself too little time to write too much about them this week, so (very) brief thoughts before more comments next week.

- The Marvels: really good, fun movie that I can see myself re-watching a lot for just how bright and breezy it is; is it one of the MCU's best? Nope, nowhere near it, but still a lot, lot better than reactions would suggest.

- The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes: the least good Hunger Games movie for me ('worst' sounds too negative), but still a decent watch to fill in some of the backstory of the original quadrilogy.

- Only one more episode of Life is Strange Remastered done since last time, but I have to admit that I enjoyed it more than I remember with the original version; maybe knowing what I'm doing helps save wasting time?

- My Dark Urge Bard has completed Act 1 of Baldur's Gate 3 and is now into the Shadow-cursed lands, where it'll be interesting to see how much affect the urges have on the story here.

- I did buy more games in the Steam sale in the end; already refunded one because it was so poor after just 30 minutes play that I couldn't keep going; and one was just yet another expansion for reliable old Euro Truck Simulator 2...

- Marvel Snap is still funstrating, but the negatives are becoming a bit too commonplace and my playtime is definitely decreasing week-on-week.

- Hijack, starring Idris Elba, was my latest TV viewing on Apple TV, although I have extended my subscription for an extra month to burn through what little remains I want to watch on that particular streaming service.

- As for Hijack itself, it's weirdly very poor in some places but still absolutely gripping otherwise thanks to just how damn magnetic and charismatic a screen presence Idris Elba is.

- Honestly, there are moments that made me roll my eyes in disbelief at how bad a line or piece of acting was, or how stupid some of the supposedly more intelligent characters were being, but by the time the credits hit I was still raring to go straight into the next episode.

- I think it helps massively that there are multiple subplots to follow even if the majority of the action takes place almost in real time on a plane: it stops things from getting too one-note or repetitive by providing some much-needed variety to keep you paying attention.

- It is a little odd how poor the CGI plane looked when getting it on the ground became the centre of attention right at the climax, as there's very little needed throughout and I think the VFX teams may have either not got the time or the budget - or neither - to do the show justice.

- I don't know if I could recommend Hijack with any particular enthusiasm due to how poor parts of it were, but I still had a pretty good time with it, so I'd say to at least give it a go; there's only seven episodes after all. [7/10]
