Captain Marvel
While it wasn't quite the internet-breaking event that Brie Larson suggested it might be - mainly because most people were hoping for a trailer - it was still good to finally see some pictures from the first solo female movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In keeping with tradition, the cover of Entertainment Weekly showing off Captain Marvel in her costume was terrible, but the photos from the film actually look really, really good - especially the picture of the de-aged Samuel L Jackson as a young eye-patch free Nick Fury.
We also get to see Lee Pace and Djimon Hounsou back as Ronan and Korath from Guardians of the Galaxy, with the latter apparently on Carol's team as a member of Starforce. Said team also includes Gemma Chan, who looks very different with blue skin and a different hairstyle to usual.
No sign of Clark Gregg's Agent Coulson just yet, but he might only have a small role in the film not considered worthy of his own picture, or the de-aging for his character simply might not be ready just yet. Maybe we'll get a glimpse of Coulson in the trailer, which is likely to be released next week.
It'll be interesting to see how the antagonists stand up to someone as powerful as Captain Marvel, with the Skrulls - led by Ben Mendelsohn's Talos - not much of a threat. I imagine it will probably be more an intellectual challenge for Carol instead of a physical one, wondering who's real and who is one of the shape-shifting aliens.
I'm really, really looking forward to this film, possibly even more so than Avengers 4, and I expect the trailer to be a little closer to what people expected today.
Spider-Man
The reviews are in and it's looking pretty good for the friendly neighbourhood wall-crawler, with a very enthusiastic response from pretty much every outlet. The story and character work especially seem to be getting a lot of praise, which is music to my ears.
The main criticism seems to be that the optional side-missions are repetitive, but hey: OPTIONAL. I'm sure I'll end up doing them all for completion's sake, but if they do prove to be lacking in variety then I can just take a break from them.
Basically, I can't wait for Friday and this weekend's posts might be a little on the short side if I'm enjoying it as much as I expect to. Possibly next week's posts too...
