Still recovering from illness earlier in the week, today has been a day to relax and recover while watching movies, before going out tomorrow to... watch more movies.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

I watched this earlier and it always continues to prove itself my favourite of the new Star Wars films. Yeah, you don't really get to know the characters as well as you would with a smaller cast, and the entire film feels like a build-up to that third act, but what a third act! It's a lengthy sequence that really puts the 'war' back into Star Wars, something the two recent 'Saga' films have failed to do.

Pacific Rim

I'm actually writing this while watching Pacific Rim (which is why it gets that top image) and it feels even better thanks to how disappointing its sequel, Uprising, turned out to be. Like Rogue One, it has its flaws, but it also comes together to be more than the sum of its parts. There'll be a review of this film posted later in September.

Avengers: Infinity War

The last film for today is one of my favourites of the year so far. I've seen it multiple times and always enjoyed it, regardless of how bleak the ending might be - actually, that makes it even better than if the heroes had won the day. I imagine I'll watch - and utterly enjoy - it many more times before Captain Marvel and Avengers 4 come out next year.

BlacKkKlansman

Tickets are booked for tomorrow lunch-time and I can't wait, with the reviews making me even more eager to see it. Being based on a true story, I do wonder if it'll have the same issue that The Disaster Artist or I, Tonya did, where real life events feel a little inauthentic due to how we've come to accept fiction working.

The Dark Knight

As a pretty sweet follow-up to Spike Lee's latest, the gigantic screen at the BFI IMAX in Waterloo is showing Christopher Nolan's second Batman film tomorrow afternoon and I'll be there to see that too. I haven't seen the movie in years and it'll be interesting to see if it lives up to - or can surpass - that very good memory.
