Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

A live-action Star Wars show that's both really good and - most importantly - lots of fun.

Here's what I've been watching and playing over the last seven days...
MOVIES
Always a difficult watch because it's hard to see characters being killed off that have been played by the same actors for decades, although Deadpool & Wolverine has softened the impact somewhat.
It still doesn't take away from what a genuinely great movie this is though, and I doubt there's anything that ever will.
GAMES
Nobody Wants to Die
I've just started this and am enjoying it so far, although figuring out what you're supposed to do can be a little... fiddly some times.
RoboCop: Rogue City
I finished this a couple of days ago, but didn't have time to write about it so a review will be coming soon.
I will say that I enjoyed it quite a lot, even if it does possess some significant flaws.
Tyranny
I've only played a small amount of this over the last week as I'm slowly starting to struggle with it - the game is just so, so dry and the tedious combat really doesn't help things.
A playthrough supposedly lasts 7-12 hours and I've just entered the lower end of that range now, so I'm going to keep pushing through and hope that the end comes soon.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Enjoying this yet again and am already almost at the end of the infamous Bloody Baron questline, which is good enough to be the main story of an RPG on its own!
Also currently playing: Batman: Arkham City, Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020)
TV
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew
Series summary: Four kids make a mysterious discovery on their home planet that leads them to get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. (IMDb)
Episode 4, “Can’t Say I Remember No At Attin”
Okay, so we’re back to incremental advances again, are we?
It’s a decent enough episode again, and wouldn’t be an issue in a 22-episode season, but this is now the halfway point and it feels like we’ve only just started the story.
Episode 5, “You Have A Lot To Learn About Pirates”
A good episode that leaned heavily into Indiana Jones territory, with a nice character change I didn’t see coming… at this point, at least.
Episode 6, “Zero Friends Again”
Another really enjoyable episode, with the titular ‘Crew’ finally working together properly – and a cool new look for their ship which really reminded me a little of Mass Effect’s Normandy SR-2.
Episode 7, “We’re Gonna Be In So Much Trouble”
Yet another enjoyable episode, although a couple of eye-rolling moments do let it down somewhat – and from what little I’ve already picked up about the ending, I don’t see how this is going to be resolved that well…
Episode 8, “The Real Good Guys”
It actually tied up everything nicely, wisely focusing on the main characters rather than the spectacle of the X-Wing battle – and the door is left open for these characters to return to.
The show's biggest issue is that it really does take far too long to get going and it feels like the first four episodes could've been shrunk down to two if they'd tried.
However, the second half of the season is genuinely fantastic stuff and a hell of a lot of fun to watch, to the point that I'm really hoping that a second season gets made at some point.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is a lot of fun, even if it does take a while to get going; when it does, it's easily the second-best live-action Star Wars show behind Andor. [8/10]
